You will also need to visit the local market to check on some nice and suitable sized pumpkins for your party, and make sure to choose big, healthy and ripen ones as such factors are what usually makes a pumpkin easy for carving and lasting longer. Also choose the ones of the longest stem as the stem will later be the led of the pumpkin after you finish carving. After you finish this stage, wash your pumpkins well and dry with soft cloth to keep it soft, easy for carving and lasting longer in your garden/house.
Prepare a flat surface, or even use the floor, as your working space and make sure to spread some old cloth covered with old or useless newspapers. Put your washed, dried pumpkin on the workspace and begin cutting the upper part. Use a big spoon to remove all the filling seeds and make the pumpkin clean and dried from inside; that way it is ready for carving.
Draw the face you decided to carve and begin using the special tools carefully and slowly until you obtain the desired shape. Before placing the lighting candle or luminary tool inside the carved pumpkin, you should leave it for some time outside in the air. Such action will help drying the pumpkin from inside and stiffing the outer layer. After that you can place the light inside, cover each carved pumpkin with its original upper part, the part you cut before carving, and enjoy your creation.
